Our poster stars Toby and Dotty (with some help from Tori)

The Adventures of Toby and Dotty • We are really excited to have Tori Jeffress as a regular contributor to HorseWyse! Tori is going to be writing about her adventures with Toby the Kelpie and Dotty the mini pony, and sharing with us her training techniques.

For the Love of Brumbies - Part 1 • Australian horse lovers have a very emotional attachment to the Brumby. From Banjo Paterson’s The Man from Snowy River (and the film), Elyne Mitchell’s The Silver Brumby books and the opening of the Sydney Olympics, Brumbies have been a constant feature in Australian heritage. We think of the Brumbies roaming freely in the Snowy Mountains, but in reality there are plans underway to drastically reduce the numbers of Brumbies in the National Parks. The Brumbies need to adapt to a new way of life. It is heartwarming to read stories from the rescue groups who are helping to capture, train and rehome Brumbies, to stories from those individuals who are then adopting the Brumbies and giving them a new job to do. These rescue groups and adopters will ensure that the Brumby will live on in Australia.

7 HORSES FOR 7 CHILDREN Part 2 • The Ayach family from Sydney are on a steep learning curve. In the last issue of HorseWyse we met mum Lina and her seven children Mehdi, 15, Ali, 13, Mariam, 12, Kausar, 11, Mohammed, 9, Omar, 8, and Mehdiya, 7 as they embarked on their adventure of becoming horse owners. The family is now learning how to care for and ride their horses in hopes of becoming competitive riders in the future.
